Follow this step-by-step process for a proper tire repair, allowing off-road vehicles to return to action quickly and safely, even in challenging environments.
Step 1: Assess the damage Before starting the repair, it's important to inspect the extent of the tire damage and determine if the tire is repairable. Factors to be considered for the assessment can be the size of the puncture, whether foreign objects are still inside, and the location of the puncture. Generally, a tire can be repaired if the following conditions are met:
Step 2: Lift the vehicle and remove the tire
Use a jack to lift the vehicle safely and remove the affected tire to begin the repair process.
Step 3: Remove the object
If the foreign object is still embedded in the tire, remove it carefully. Screws, bolts, or other threaded items can be unscrewed by hand however, nails and other non-threaded objects may require the use of a flat-head screwdriver or needle-nose pliers.
Step 4: Clean up the punctured hole
Using a reaming tool and other necessary equipment, clean up and roughen the puncture hole to ensure that the tire repair string can be inserted properly.
Step 5: Insert the tire repair string
Use the provided tools in the repair kit, ideally a string inserting needle, to push the tire repair string into the puncture hole leaving its ends sticking put, ensuring a snug fit that will seal the puncture.
Step 6: Trim excess repair string
Use the cutting tool to trim any excess string to about 5mm from the tire surface so that the repair is as clean and smooth.
